Buying the Correct Shoe for Your Sport
November 11th, 2007Selecting the Right Sports Shoe for You
Wearing a pair of sports shoes that’s designed for that particular sport is key to optimum performance. Whatever sport you choose to participate in, there is a shoe that’s designed to offer extra protect to those areas of the feet that suffer the most stress in that particular sport.
Shoes that are meant for running, jogging and hiking offer extra cushioning, flexibility, stability, control and good traction. They are typically very light, comfortable soft uppers and are built to provide good shock absorption. Many shoe brands have developed advanced running shoes with an air-cushioning system that are extra efficient at absorbing shock.
Shoes for field sports including soccer, baseball and football will have cleats, spiked or studs. Though the stud and spike size and design may vary from sport to sport, they are typically detachable and replaceable and are affixed to nylon soles.
Because of the backward, forward and side-to-side movements involved, a good sole is the most important feature of sport shoes that are used for court sports such as basketball, volleyball and tennis.
The key to good sports shoes for winter sports including cross-country skiing, ice hockey, alpine skiing and figure skating are shoes that provide ample ankle support.
Some sporting activities, including golf, cycling, boating and aerobic dancing have specialty shoes that are designed for the game.
Tips for Buying Sports Shoes
Sport shoes that fill well will prevent injuries and help enhance performance. To get the perfect fit it is best to try on sport shoes at the end of a physically-active day when your feet are at their largest. Make sure you are wearing the same kind of sock that you usually wear for that sport. When worn, you should be able to wiggle all your toes freely whereas the shoe should grip you firmly at the heel. If the shoe is uncomfortable when you put your feet in them, it’s probably because they are badly designed. Do not buy them and do not talked-into believing there is a break-in period. Shoes should feel comfortable the first time you slip your feet into them
